3 Day Intensive Jewellery Design / CAD Course 14th – 15th – 16th June 2026 | 10am – 5pm. Training Room: Gilded Cage Tattoo Studio, 106 St James Street, Brighton, BN2 1LL

The Illustrated Academy Three Day Intensive Jewellery Design Course in Brighton is designed for jewellers, designers, and creatives who want to develop professional jewellery design skills using technical drawing, Rhino CAD modelling, rendering workflows, and modern AI visualisation tools.

Across three focused days you will learn how to move from initial jewellery design concept through to a fully realised CAD model, ready for 3D printing, casting, and professional presentation.

The course combines traditional jewellery design thinking with modern digital workflows, giving students practical tools used by contemporary jewellery designers.

Students will explore the process of designing rings through technical drawing, CAD modelling, production preparation, rendering, and AI visualisation, learning how to create jewellery designs that are both aesthetically refined and technically correct for manufacture.

Day 1

Procreate Technical Drawing and Rhino Foundations

The first day focuses on professional jewellery design drawing techniques and preparing designs for CAD modelling.

Students will learn how to create accurate jewellery technical drawings, which form the foundation for successful CAD models.

Topics include:

• Procreate technical drawing perspective views

• CAD-friendly jewellery sketching techniques

• Understanding ring and gemstone proportions

• Preparing technical drawings ready for Rhino CAD modelling

• Introduction to the Rhino interface and workspace

• Essential Rhino commands

• Drawing jewellery forms using curves and NURBS geometry

This stage ensures students understand how to translate creative design ideas into technically workable CAD geometry.

Day 2

CAD Rhino 3D Jewellery Modelling

With guest CAD instructor Stephen Barnett

Day two focuses on Rhino CAD modelling for jewellery design, teaching students how to build a ring using professional CAD workflows.

Students will learn how to construct jewellery models that are clean, accurate, and suitable for manufacturing.

Topics include:

• Building the ring body and shank structure

• Importing and positioning gemstones in Rhino

• Creating accurate stone seats for gemstones

• Understanding prong setting fundamentals

• Learning bezel setting basics

• Maintaining correct tolerances and clean CAD geometry

• Developing sculptural ring forms and design variations

This day focuses on understanding how jewellery must be constructed digitally so it can be successfully produced through casting or manufacturing.

Day 3

Jewellery Forms, Rendering and AI Presentation

The final day focuses on preparing jewellery models for production, rendering, and professional visual presentation.

Students will learn how to refine their models for manufacturing, explore introductory workflows in Blender, and produce high-quality presentation visuals using rendering tools and AI platforms.

Topics include:

• Preparing jewellery CAD models for 3D printing and production

• Exporting jewellery files for casting workflows

• Introduction to Blender for jewellery refinement

• Preparing CAD models so they appear as if they have been set and finished at the bench

• Refining surfaces and smoothing geometry for improved visual presentation

• Applying metal materials and gemstone colouring

• Exporting hero images for jewellery presentation

• Introduction to AI rendering platforms for jewellery

• Creating your own AI generated model for jewellery presentation

• Placing jewellery designs realistically onto AI models

• Producing mood boards and visual campaign imagery for clients or marketing

By the end of the third day students will understand how to take their jewellery designs beyond CAD modelling, creating professional visuals that communicate their work clearly to clients, manufacturers, and audiences.

What You Will Learn

• Professional jewellery technical drawing techniques

• Rhino CAD modelling for jewellery design

• Building rings and gemstone settings in CAD

• Understanding jewellery manufacturing considerations

• Preparing jewellery files for 3D printing and casting

• Creating jewellery render images and presentation visuals

• Using AI tools to present jewellery designs professionally
