LOST at SEA

Lost at Sea is a collection born from family history, inspired by Albert Self, a Royal Navy caulker lost at sea on Christmas Day, 1885, off the coast of British Burma. Each handcrafted piece carries the imagery of his journey, from swallows and nautical stars to celestial motifs, reimagined in gold and gemstone as wearable heirlooms. Designed and made by hand in Brighton, every ring, pendant, and earring in this collection tells a story of voyage, memory, and the ties that outlast distance and time.

The Illustrated Jeweller is a Brighton-based bespoke jewellery studio founded by tattoo artist turned designer James Robinson. Handcrafted in the UK in solid silver and gold, each piece is set with precious gemstones — from Moonstone and Sapphire to raw and laboratory-grown Diamonds. Inspired by sailors, swallows, and the symbolism of the sea, the collection carries the story of James’ great-great-grandfather Albert Self, lost at sea in 1885.
