The Swallow Earrings I Donated to Anouska Lancaster's Charity Auction — Jewellery in Service of Something Greater

There are commissions that test your craft. There are commissions that challenge your creativity. And then occasionally something comes along that reminds you what this work can actually be used for.

When Anouska Lancaster reached out to me, it was the third kind.

The Cause

Anouska Lancaster is a patron of Kaleidoscopic UK — a charity dedicated to raising money for victims and survivors of domestic violence. She was organising her second annual silent online auction alongside Vickie at Kaleidoscopic, with every single penny of proceeds going directly to the charity to continue changing lives.

She asked if I would donate a piece.

I didn't hesitate.

Why the Swallow

I donated a pair of my Swallow Star Drop Cocktail Earrings — and the choice of the swallow felt more meaningful here than perhaps anywhere else.

The swallow has carried its symbolism through centuries of jewellery history. Safe return. Protection. Finding your way home. For sailors it was a talisman — a promise that however far you were blown off course, you would return.

For the women and families supported by Kaleidoscopic UK — people rebuilding their lives and finding their way back to safety — that symbolism felt quietly but deeply appropriate. A piece made to mean something, donated to a cause built around exactly that.

The Earrings

The Swallow Star Drop Cocktail Earrings are one of my favourite pieces from the studio. Handcrafted and hand finished at the bench, they carry the drama of a cocktail earring with the storytelling that sits at the heart of everything I make.

They went into the auction alongside an extraordinary collection of lots — the auction ran for two weeks from 19th April, with winners announced on 4th May.

What This Meant to Me

Being able to use this craft in service of something genuinely important is one of the most meaningful things this work has given me. Jewellery carries weight — not just physical weight, but the weight of intention, of story, of care. Putting that in service of a charity like Kaleidoscopic felt entirely right.

To Anouska and everyone at Kaleidoscopic UK — thank you for the work you do. And thank you for letting a pair of swallows play a small part in it.
